Full Electrical System Inspection
We check the entire solar PV system — DC isolators, wiring, connections, and AC supply — not just the inverter unit itself.
Fault Code Reading & Interpretation
All stored solar inverter fault codes read and diagnosed using manufacturer tools. We explain what each code means in plain English.
Fault Report with Recommendation
Written report detailing the fault, cause, and whether repair or replacement is the most cost-effective route for your system.
Supply of New Inverter
We source genuine replacement units for all major brands directly from manufacturers or authorised distributors. Most common models held in stock.
Removal & Safe Disposal of Old Unit
Old inverter safely disconnected, removed, and disposed of in accordance with WEEE regulations. No skip needed.
Professional MCS-Certified Installation
Inverter installed and wired to current wiring regulations by our MCS-certified engineers. All work meets BS 7671 standards.
Full System Commissioning & Testing
Complete commissioning test after installation. String voltages, AC output, and live generation verified before we leave site.
Inverter App & Monitoring Setup
We connect the new inverter to your home Wi-Fi, configure the manufacturer monitoring portal, and walk you through the app before we leave.
DNO Notification (Where Required)
We handle notification to your Distribution Network Operator where required, ensuring your FIT or Smart Export Guarantee payments are not interrupted.
Manufacturer Warranty Registration
New inverter warranty registered in your name with the manufacturer. Most replacement inverters carry 5–10 year warranties.
Performance Verification Report
Written post-installation report confirming measured output vs. expected generation. Useful for insurance claims and future reference.
Understanding Your Solar Inverter
Not all solar inverters are the same. Understanding which type you have helps us diagnose faults faster and recommend the right replacement.
String Inverter
Most common in pre-2020 installs
A string inverter connects all your solar panels in series (a “string”) and converts the combined DC output to AC in a single unit, typically mounted on the wall near your consumer unit. It is the most common inverter type and the most straightforward to replace. The downside is that a fault — or shading on a single panel — can reduce output from the whole string, which is why a failed string inverter means your entire system stops generating. Brands we replace: Fronius, SMA, Solis, Growatt, Solax.
Single unit · whole-array conversion · typical lifespan 10–15 years
Hybrid Inverter
Required for battery storage
A hybrid inverter manages solar generation, battery storage, and your grid connection in a single unit. It decides in real time whether to send solar power to your home, charge the battery, or export to the grid — and in the evening it draws from the battery before importing from the grid. If you have an older string inverter and are considering adding battery storage, upgrading to a hybrid inverter at the same time is often the most cost-effective approach. Brands we install: GivEnergy, SunSynk, Fox ESS, Solis, Solax.

Microinverter
Panel-level conversion — most resilient
A microinverter is a small inverter fitted to the underside of each individual solar panel. Each panel converts its own DC output to AC independently, so a fault on one microinverter only affects that single panel — the rest of the system keeps generating normally. This makes microinverter systems highly resilient to shading and component failure. Enphase is the most common brand in the UK. Replacing a failed microinverter is a focused job: we identify the faulty unit using the Enphase monitoring platform and replace it on a targeted visit.

Inverter Lifespan
When to repair vs. replace
A typical UK residential solar inverter lasts 10–15 years, significantly less than the 25-year performance warranty on the panels themselves. The most common question we get is: “how long does a solar inverter last, and should I repair or replace it?” Our answer: if the inverter is under 8 years old and the fault is a known repairable component, repair is often worth it. Over 10 years old, persistent error codes, generation 25%+ below expected, or an end-of-life notice from the manufacturer are all strong signals that replacement is the better investment.
10–15 year typical lifespan · repair under 8 years · replace over 10 years
Common Solar Inverter Problems We Fix
Whether it’s a solar inverter fault code you can’t clear or a complete system shutdown, our engineers carry full diagnostic equipment to pinpoint the problem on the first visit. Solar inverters typically last 10–12 years — here’s what our expert engineers can help with:
Error Codes
Flashing lights or fault codes on the display? We read and interpret all stored solar inverter fault codes using manufacturer diagnostic tools and clear the root cause — not just the symptom.
Low Output
System producing less energy than expected? Could be inverter component degradation, incorrect settings, or MPPT tracker failure. We compare your actual output against irradiance-corrected expected generation.
No Power
Inverter completely dead with no display or LED activity? We check AC supply, DC isolators, fuses, and internal components to identify whether the fault is in the inverter or the wider system.
Strange Noises
Buzzing, clicking, or humming from the inverter indicates internal component failure — often capacitors or cooling fans. Left untreated, these faults tend to escalate. We diagnose and advise on repair vs. replacement.

Our Solar Inverter Replacement Process
A systematic, five-step approach from first diagnosis to completed documentation.
- 1
Free Diagnosis
On-site · 1–2 hoursOur engineer arrives with full inverter fault-finding equipment: laptop diagnostics, clamp meter, and string tester. We read all stored fault codes, review generation history, and carry out a full DC and AC electrical check to confirm whether the fault is in the inverter or elsewhere in the system.
- All stored solar inverter fault codes read and interpreted
- DC string voltages and AC output measured against specification
- Generation history reviewed against expected output for system age
- 2
Quote & Options
Same day · written quoteWe present your options clearly: repair (where viable), like-for-like replacement, or upgrade to a hybrid inverter if you want to add battery storage in future. All prices are itemised before any work begins, with no obligation to proceed.
- Repair vs. replace assessed — we recommend the most cost-effective route
- Hybrid inverter upgrade costed if battery storage is relevant to you
- Written quote with no hidden fees — approved before work starts
- 3
Professional Installation
On-site · 3–4 hoursOnce you approve the quote, we source your replacement inverter directly from the manufacturer or authorised distributor. Installation is carried out by our MCS-certified engineers, with minimal disruption to your home. Most replacements are completed within half a day.
