Design · Primary reason
Eastbourne enjoys around 1,900 sunshine hours per year — among the highest on the south coast. We design systems that make the most of that, whether you’re in a Victorian terrace near the seafront or a newer build off Kings Drive.
We know the roof shapes and access constraints across BN20–BN24 inside out. From compact dormers in Upperton to large detached homes in Ratton and Westham, every layout is designed around your specific property.
MCS certification, DNO paperwork, monitoring setup, and a clear handover are all included in every solar panel installation Eastbourne project we deliver. We're based locally, so aftercare is a phone call away — not a call centre.
We are based in Eastbourne, so nearly every job on this page is close by. We have three Eastbourne projects published here. They run from 10 panels at 4.6 kWp up to 18 panels at 8.46 kWp. kWp is the size of the array. We use JA Solar, Aiko or Jinko panels, depending on the roof. All three homes have battery storage.
Christine in BN20 said we handled the planning application, arranged the scaffolding and booked the installation. It took a day and a half. We sorted the certification and the set up with her energy supplier. Andy in BN22 said the survey was proper and thorough. He said we looked at his property layout before showing any options. Dawn in BN20 said the work was done within the times we quoted.
Roofs vary a lot from BN20 to BN24. There are Victorian terraces near the seafront, newer houses off Kings Drive and larger detached homes in Ratton and Westham. So we decide the design at the survey, not on the phone.
Planning & permissions
Most homes in Eastbourne fall under permitted development, so no planning permission is needed. Properties in conservation areas (such as parts of Meads and the seafront) or listed buildings may need extra checks — we advise during the survey and handle any Eastbourne Borough Council submissions on your behalf.
The government's planning data service lists Eastbourne Borough Council as the local planning authority for Eastbourne.
Most solar panels on a house are permitted development, so no planning application is needed. The rules are in Class A, Part 14, Schedule 2 of the General Permitted Development Order. Panels must not stick out more than 0.2 metres from the roof slope. They must not sit higher than the highest part of the roof, not counting the chimney. They must be placed so their effect on the look of the building and the area is as small as possible. Class A does not apply at all if your home is a listed building.
In a conservation area you cannot put panels on a wall, balcony or roof enclosure that fronts a highway. For a flat roof array in a conservation area you must first ask the council whether its prior approval is needed for how the panels will look, before work starts.
Part of Eastbourne is inside the South Downs National Park. Where a home is inside it, the National Park Authority is the planning authority, not the borough council. The Authority publishes a conservation area map for Meads.
We confirm the position at survey and handle the submission.
The National Park boundary runs through this part of East Sussex. Where a property is inside it, the South Downs National Park Authority is the planning authority, not the district or borough council. Its Planning Committee is the statutory planning authority for the Park.
The Authority says the General Permitted Development Order still allows microgeneration on homes, including solar panels, where the conditions in Part 14 are met. Its own advice note says sensitively designed roof top solar is likely to be suitable in most areas, and that making use of existing roof space is strongly encouraged. It also says several Part 14 rights do not apply to listed buildings or to land and buildings in their grounds, that there are restrictions relating to conservation areas, and that anyone affected should get tailored advice.
A National Park counts as article 2(3) land, so for a flat roof array you must first ask the Authority whether its prior approval is needed for how the panels will look, before work starts.
We confirm the position at survey and handle the submission.

Our advertised price is for solar panels on their own. A battery is priced on top, and a battery on its own starts from a set figure and is confirmed at survey. Here is how the three compare.
£6,000–£8,000 installed
The advertised band. Includes panels, inverter, mounting, scaffolding where required, installation, commissioning and MCS certification, at 0% VAT. No battery.
Adds from £1,750
On top of the solar price, for a 5 kWh battery. Larger batteries, and a hybrid inverter where one is needed, are priced at survey.
From around £2,500
Storage added to a solar system you already have. Priced at survey, because the inverter you have decides what is needed.

View projectA battery stores the power your panels make in the day. You use it in the evening for cooking, washing and lights. Without one, the spare power goes to the grid. You then buy power back from the grid, and that usually costs more than you were paid for the export. If your tariff has cheap overnight power, the battery can charge on that too. We have three Eastbourne systems published below. Each one has the battery named on its own case study, not a standard unit. Two homes took the bigger battery and one took a smaller one. They use power in different ways. Aaron in BN21 asked us about panels and a battery a few years before he went ahead. That is a sensible way to do it.
Every published Eastbourne case study below was installed with battery storage.
Models installed on those projects: Anker SOLIX X1-B5-H, Fox ESS EP6 Plus.
Sizing, tariffs and how storage works alongside solar are covered on our battery storage page.

I went with Eastbourne Energy is because they are a family run business who are committed to providing a personal service. Their attention to detail for cable runs etc was exemplary. The whole installation was completed by lunchtime and commissioned that same afternoon. Thank you Eastbourne Energy team!

I would have no hesitation in recommending Lee and his efficient hard working team. Lee handled everything from the planning application, arranging the scaffolding and booking in the installation (which only took 1.5 days) to the certification and set up with the energy supplier. Lee was really helpful and happy to answer all of our questions, the whole process was seamless.

I first enquired about the installation of a battery and solar panels a few years ago, I finally decided to get them installed. Lee was available all through the process to answer any questions and after the install for follow up support. The whole team were polite, tidy and helpful.

Straight answers to the questions homeowners in Eastbourne ask us most before they book a survey.
Coastal homes often benefit from extra attention to fixings, cable routes, and corrosion-resistant components. We account for salt air, wind exposure, and roof access during the survey so the system is specified properly from the start.
