Solar panels Robertsbridge and TN32 properties can rely on, from village homes around Station Road and Northbridge Street to cottages and farmhouses in Salehurst, Bodiam, and Ewhurst Green. We are used to the rural mix here: older roofs, longer access routes, tree shading, and properties where neat visual design matters as much as generation.

Design · Primary reason
Robertsbridge homes often have character rooflines, outbuildings, or partially shaded sections that need more than a template design. We survey those details properly and show where optimisers, battery storage, or a smaller but better-performing layout make more sense.
Rural installs around Bodiam and Salehurst can hinge on practical issues like scaffold access, cable routes, and inverter placement across larger plots. We plan those logistics early so the quote covers the whole job, not just the panels.
If your property is listed or sits in a conservation-sensitive part of the village, we help shape the layout and paperwork for Rother District Council so the installation stays tidy, defensible, and easier to approve.
Planning & permissions
Most homes fall under permitted development. If your property is listed or in a conservation area, we’ll advise during the survey and handle any council submissions if needed.
Rother District Council is the local planning authority for Battle, Bexhill, Robertsbridge and Ninfield.
The council lists solar panels among the works that are normally permitted development, so no planning application is needed. The rules are in Class A, Part 14, Schedule 2 of the General Permitted Development Order. Panels must not stick out more than 0.2 metres from the roof slope, must not sit higher than the highest part of the roof apart from the chimney, and must be placed so their effect on the building and the area is as small as possible. Class A does not apply at all if your home is listed.
Rother says permitted development may not apply if you are in the High Weald National Landscape, a conservation area or a Site of Special Scientific Interest, and that rights may have been removed by an earlier decision. Its general note that permitted development does not apply to flats is about householder rights; for solar, the order covers a block of flats as a whole, with its own limits. Its conservation areas include Battle, Bexhill Old Town, Bexhill Town Centre and Robertsbridge and Northbridge Street. 83% of the district is in the High Weald.
We confirm the position at survey and handle the submission.
The High Weald is a National Landscape, designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 1983. It is not a planning authority. The High Weald team says responsibility for deciding planning applications stays with the fifteen local authorities the area covers, so your application still goes to Wealden or Rother.
Over 53% of Wealden District and 83% of Rother District are inside it. Both councils have adopted the High Weald Management Plan and both say it is a material consideration when they decide a planning application.
A National Landscape counts as article 2(3) land under the General Permitted Development Order. That matters in one specific way for solar: for a flat roof array you must first ask the council whether its prior approval is needed for how the panels will look, before work starts. Roof panels on a pitched roof are treated the same as anywhere else, within the usual Class A limits.
Rother also says permitted development may not apply in parts of the district inside the National Landscape, so it is worth checking.
We confirm the position at survey and handle the submission.

Our advertised price is for solar panels on their own. A battery is priced on top, and a battery on its own starts from a set figure and is confirmed at survey. Here is how the three compare.
£6,000–£8,000 installed
The advertised band. Includes panels, inverter, mounting, scaffolding where required, installation, commissioning and MCS certification, at 0% VAT. No battery.
Adds from £1,750
On top of the solar price, for a 5 kWh battery. Larger batteries, and a hybrid inverter where one is needed, are priced at survey.
From around £2,500
Storage added to a solar system you already have. Priced at survey, because the inverter you have decides what is needed.

All the guys were friendly and very capable. Received all the paperwork within a few days with certification and regulation all done. Had very little to do myself.

Straight answers to the questions homeowners in Robertsbridge ask us most before they book a survey.
Yes. We check the roof condition, the covering and the fixing points at the survey. Panels are up there for decades, so the roof has to be sound. Older village and farmhouse roofs around Salehurst and Northbridge Street get more attention than a modern tiled roof.
Often yes, but the design changes. First we work out how the shade moves across the year. Then we can fit optimisers, so one shaded panel has much less effect on the rest. Or we use a smaller layout on the better roof face. A smaller array that works well is better than a large one that struggles.
Somewhere dry, airy and easy to reach, usually a garage, utility room or plant room. On a larger plot the cable run between panels, inverter and fuse board is part of the design and the price. We agree the position at the survey, not on installation day.
